    • In 1599 he held his castle of Croghan for the Queen. [1]
      In 1601 John was briefly kidnapped, but was freed in June 1601 by Cahill MacTeig O Connor on instructions from Hugh O’Neill. John Moore’s uncle, Edward Moore of Mellifont had influence with O’Neill, as did his son Garret Moore who sought the assistance of his friend the Earl of Tyrone, thus ensuring his release. [2]
      Sir John Moore married Dorothy Loftus, fifth daughter of Adam Loftus DD Archbishop of Dublin and his wife Jane Purdon. [2] & [1]
      1606 / 7 John Moore of Croghan was knighted at Drogheda by Sir Arthur Chichester, Lord Deputy of Ireland [3]
      He acquired the Constableship of Phillipstown (now Daingean) from his cousin Sir Garret Moore [2]
      By 1622 he was one of the largest landowners in Offaly holding land in Ferical (Eglish) , Tullamore, together with a weekly market and yearly fair, (granted 1622 by James I )his castle at Croghan and another at Tougher. He also owned the town of Clonfert, the town of Crurmulloghrosse, Castle Ratrummon and lands in Leitrim and also the territory of Ely O'Carrol [2] & [1]
      1627 Prominent in the funeral procession of his cousin Garret Moore [2]
      Will: April 10, 1633. His funeral entry has a death date of 26 April 1633 (it originally was recorded as 1638 but was later edited) [4] [1]
