  • Notes
    • Prob s/o John HERBERT of Salem
      Prob no issue
Not the son of John HERBERT b in Northamptonshire, England, d Reading, MA. That appears to be a totally different line. This John HERBERT and descendants were exclusively in Salem, MA.
      m1 Elizabeth _____
m2 15 Oct 1684 Elizabeth (RUSSELL) GRAVES (12 Oct 1644—12 Feb 1679/80), d/o, Richard RUSSELL & Maud PITT, wd/o Nathaniel GRAVES, a sea captain who had died at sea 12 Feb 1679/80. She had five children with her first husband.
      ——
At various times he was a resident of Southold, Long Island, and Salem, Reading, and Charlestown, Massachusetts. In some cases he appears to have been treated as residing concurrently in Long Island and Massachusetts which although a little surprising was feasible for a seafarer. A further potential source of confusion is the residence in Salem of a second John Herbert. [2]
