- Jacob Hamblen was born 19 Nov. 1792 in Gorham, ME [McLellan, p. 536; NEHGR, Vol. 105, pp. 62-63].
He lived on a farm in Buxton, ME, just over the Gorham line [McLellan, p. 537]. He was a successful farmer and well-to-do in the world [McLellan, p. 537].
1850 US Census, Maine, York County, Buxton, roll 275, p. 77, Line 34, 421/442, 27 August 1850, gives Jacob Hamlen's age as 57, b. ME, his occupation as farmer, and his real estate value as $2000. Included in his household: Sarah, age 53, b. ME; Sarah H., age 17, b. ME; Augustus A. Spear, age 8, b. ME.
He died 18 Dec. 1874 [McLellan, p. 537], and was buried at South Street Cemetery, 17 South Street, Gorham, ME.
Gravestone record: Capt. Jacob Hamblen, d. 18 Dec. 1874, 82 years.
