  Indians killed him while crossing the Merrimack River during an attack on Haverhill. He was heading home to protect his family in Bradford. —— Know all men by these presents that we, Edward Carlton and Benjamin Carlton, sons of Edward Carlton of Bradford in the county of Essex in New England (deceased) as principles and Richard Kimball of Bradford aforesaid as surety are held and stand bound into Jonathan Appleton, Esq., judge of probate of wills in said county in the full and just sum of fifty pounds current money of New England to be to the judge, his successor or on said office attorney or assignee for heirs, executors, jointly and severally by these presents. Sealed with our seals dated the first day of August Anno Do 1715. Annoque R. Regins Georgi Nunc Magres and etc. Primo. The condition of the present obligation is such that if the above bounded Edward and Benjamin Carlton purchase two thirds of all the real estate of their father (deceased) in Bradford or Haverhill, they or either of them, either of their heirs, executors, administrators or assignees in proportion to the purchase shall pay or cause to be paid into their brother Aaron Carlton, his heirs, administrators, attorney assignees the full and true sum of thirteen pounds current lawful money of New England when he shall arrive at full age with annual interest during that time at rate of three pounds percent per annum which is his proportion of said two thirds as apprised upon oath without fail, fraud, deceit or further delay.
