  Richard Carlton moved to an area north of Methuen and Haverhill. Later, he became a taxpayer in Salem, Rockingham Co., Nh in 1741 (the Ma and NH border moved); signed a petition to Gov. Wentworth of NH to form a separate Twp. of those parts of Haverhill and Methuen that lay within the borders NH in 1742. At the first town meeting of Salem, Rockingham Co., Nh, Richard was named on a committee to survey highways. because of the new state line between Ma and NH
