Notes |
- John, baptized 17 Feb. 1586 and buried at Beeford 15 Jan. 1644;
married Rachel ???, buried at Beeford 26 Nov. 1654, having beenmentioned
in the will of John Carleton, Sr., as his daughter in 1620. The willof
John Carleton, dated 28 Dec. 1643, was apparently not proved until 21
Dec. 1647. In it he makes bequests to Elizabeth Carleton (his niece),
daughter of Thomas; to Thomas, s/o Walter Carleton; and to "mebrother
Thomas Norton" and "me sister Margret Norton." His wife Rachelreceived
all his lands in Beeford, and was designated sole executrix. Two
depositions made at Beverley, co. York, in 1628 by "John Carlton of
Beford, gent., aged forty years" (evidently in connection with achancery
suit over rents between other parties) may be cited as indicating that
John and his brother Thomas were engaged in rather extensiveagricultural
operations, for they had leased lands of the dissolved Priory of
Nunkeling (probably used for pasturage).
