• Notes

  Priscilla Carleton was called a witch because she could take stains out of cloth or bleach it with some plant she found in the woods. An Indian woman had told her about this and also told her she must never tell anyone else about it. Priscilla never did and for keeping her promise was called a witch. There is a copy of Mary Osgood's apology for calling her a witch in existence somewhere.
