  Toward the end of the French War, Mrs. Putnam's mother, then a young girl lived with her parents Nathaniel and Hannah Roberts in the blockhouse. Once, when all the men were absent, the Indians attacked the place but were frightened away by the presence of mind of Mrs. Roberts and her daughter. —— Abigail Carleton was the widow of John Johnson who died in the Revolutionary war. Her second husband was Ens David Putnam. Her third husband was Captain Jonas Kidder, and she was his third wife. They married in 1827, he in his 80's, her in her 70's and she outlived him.
