  Alexander Shapleigh, husband to Mary Adams was the great grands/o the first Alexander Shapleigh to emigrate to America (born 1598 in England) This Alexander Shapleigh was also the s/o John Shapleigh, who was killed by Indians. This Alexander Shapleigh's great-uncle was Nicholas Shapleigh, killed in a ship-launching accident, also a most prominent figure in the settling of the Kittery area. In 1694 Alexander Shapleigh received a grant of 40 acres of land from the town of Kittery.
