    • Luther Joshua Dame was a soldier, educator, and surveyor. He taught school in Newbury, Newburyport, Salem, Nahant, and Danvers, Mass. Went to Kansas in 1855, surveyed Topeka, participated in the division of lots, took an active part in the contest between “Free State” and “Pro Slavery” men. Served as Capt, Co C, 11th Massachusetts Infantry, Army of Potomac under General Hooker at Yorktown and Williamsburg, 1862. Commandant, Forts Pickering & Lee, Winter Island, Salem, Mass, 1864. Member Massachusetts General Court, 1887, 1888, 1889 from the 8th Essex District; State Senator, 3rd Essex District, 1891, 1892, 1893. Elected Justice of Coronado, CA in 1898. Alderman, Newburyport.
