  • Notes
    • Jonas was on the muster roll of Capt. William Burnet in the War of 1812 and his company was detached to the defense of Boston in Sept. 1814, after the British had attacked Castine, Maine. As a young man, he bought from his father an "undivided half of the family farm (he would sell in like manner to his son Jonas years later). When he died, Patty declined to administer the estate, requesting that son Jonas do so. Interesting items in the inventory include - a pew in the Methodist meeting house in Northfield, a sleigh, wagon and buffalo robe, 25 mill logs (at mill) and nine hundred feet of hemlock boards, 100 sap buckets, and in the house -a paring machine, a bible and a lot of books, a tea set, a looking glass, and among personal effects - two pairs of boots, two pairs of pantaloons, three waistcoats, a pair of spectacles, and a pair of mittens. Many other items are listed and it appears to be a moderately prosperous farmer's household.
