      KETCHUM

One by one the links that bind together as a community are broken. Thehands that largely assisted in shaping beauty and comfort, rest fromtheir labor, but the influences for good are imperishable. Before therewas any Plainfield the deceased lived here, and into its formation andsubesquent life she was ever planning and praying the very bestconditions. Mrs. Betsie Ketchum was born August 6, 1824, in OrleansCounty, New York, was married May 1, 1842, and came to Plainfield, Iowa,in June 1856. She was one of the very early settlers in this place, andhas had through all these years, a lively interest in tile growth andgoodness of the communitY. She was a charter member of this church andhas magnified its doctrines by a constant life. To her father and motherwere born six children, four girs and two boys. Together they all sleepin death. Two children survive the deceased. Mrs. A. P. Griffith ofPlainfield, and Lewis G. Ketchum of Larimore, N. D. Mrs. Ketchum diedSunday night April I, 1900, at 10 minutes of twelve. Her last momentswere peaceful and painless, as the sleep of a child. The funeral was heldTuesday at two p. m. from the Baptist church, Rev. H. Clay Searles officiating.
