    • Ezra Jr. was born in Vermont but left the Green Mountain state for Ohio in early life and later married at Rockford, Ill. to Nancy Andrews, a native of Ohio. In 1838 he removed to Illinois and was one of the first
      settlers of Jo Daviess county. Soon afterward he built a sawmill, which he operated for a number of years engaging in the manufacture of lumber.
      He also opened up a new farm, entering some land from the government and purchasing other tracts until he was the owner of four hundred acres, constituting a very valuable property. He was by trade a carpenter and a joiner and also followed that pursuit for some years. His last days were spent in Jo Daviess county, but his wife afterward removed to Lena, where her death occured.
