    • Regarding the spelling of Starbird, there is a mystery surrounding it. In "Genealogy of the Starbird-Starbard family" by Alfred Starbird, he makes a point that no one really knows the correct spelling. There is some supposition that it may have originally have been Starbuck and mutated from there. Or, perhaps it could have been Starboard in reference to part of the ship and the people assigned that name had no choice. In any case, Starbird, Starbard, Starboard, Starbord and Starbuck are all possible spellings. [3]
