From information on both the Army Lists (1757 through 1771) and the 1767 General Inspection Return, he was a Lieutenant in the regiment from 1757 until promoted to Captain on 27 March 1770, but retires in 1771.

Listed in the DAR Patriot Index as a Col.

Considerable litigation was brought about in the settlement of his estate by Elizabeth Dean, granddaughter, and John Gains, grandson. For particulars, see Stafford County Probate Records, vol 6 p 137; also Administrators account, Probate Court of 12 May 1803 and 27 Jan 1808, and bill rendered against the estate.

Probate records call him a joiner in 1754, and gentlemen in 1760. He was Sheriff under the Crown in 1768, and he was Sheriff in the State of New Hampshire after the Revolutionary War. He served in Capt Trefetheren’s Company at the Siege of Louisburg, 1745, as a member of the Colonial Militia, and was active with the Colonial Governor in settling new territories in the Province.,
      ——
