      ——
George Corliss came from England to Newbury about the year 1639, when he was about twenty-two years old.
He is believed to be the first one of the name who came to this country, and the ancestor of most, if not all, of that name in New England.
He settled in the West Parish and at his death (October 19, 1686) owned a large property, over 400 acres. The tract of land on which he settled in 1640, and on which he built a log house in 1647, was in "West Parish" and remained in the family for many generations. He owned most of the land on both sides of the old "Spicket Path," as it was then called, for a distance of more than three miles.
He was included on the Haverhill list of freemen in 1645, was chosen constable in 1650, and served as a selectman in 1648, 1650, 1657, 1669-70, and 1679.
His daughter, Mary, who married William NEFF, was captured along with Hannah Dustin in the Indian raid on Haverhill in 1696.
