  • Notes
    • Rober Leach was born circa 1615, the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Leach, who emigrated to Massachusetts during the Great Puritan Migration
      • He signed a sworn statement 1 September 1673 at the age of 58, allowing us to calculate his approximate year of birth as 1615.
      • Lawrence Leach granted his son Robert land in 1639, which supports his relationship
His first wife may have been Mary, by 1639, who died in 1648, possibly leaving no children.
His second wife was Alice, who married second Robert Elwell. Alice and Robert's children included:
      1. Sarah, who was married at the time of her father's death
      2. Elizabeth, who was married at the time of her father's death
      3. Mary, perhaps an unmarried adult at the time of her father's death
      4. Bethia, a "young daughter" at the time of her father's death
      5. Abigail, a "young daughter" at the time of her father's death
      6. Samuel an adult at the time of his father's death
      7. Robert, an adult at the time of his father's death
Robert Leach died before June 1674 without a will, but the probate file notes widow Alice, married daughters Sarah and Elizabeth, two "young daughters" Bethia and Abigail, a fifth daughter Mary, and two sons Samuel and Robert Leach. This document consistently refers to Abigail as their mother, which supports this relationship[6] . This source cites Essex County Probate Records Vol 301, pp 51-53 for the distribution of the estate, the Quarterly Court files noted here for the inventory, and Essex County Probate Records Volume 309, page 216 for the distribution of property between sons Samuel and Robert.
