    • Henry W. Moulton's "Moulton Annals", as cited by Catherine Boyer, records that Martin was born in Des Moines, Iowa. The 1880 Census indicates he was born in Ohio.

      The 1880 Census records two other sons (Charles, Jason) and two daughters (Sarah, May) of Martin's in the household, indicating that he had a previous marriage.
