  • Notes
    • John Cecil and Elizabeth were both members of the Church of England. On 6 April 1729 "John Cecill of Prince George's County, Planter" bought for £24 two tracts of 90 acres on the east side of Cabbin's Branch in Prince George's County from Richard Weaver, a carpenter from the same county. Anne Weaver, his wife waived all dower rights. These tracts were named "Weaver's Purchase" and "William's Portion" and John Cecil renamed them
"Cecill's First Purchase". On 14 Jul 1733 John Ceicell of Prince George's County, Planter, bought "Beall's Pasture" from Maj. Edward Spriggs and his wife, Elizabeth Pile Spriggs, and renamed it "Twice Bought". He paid Maj. Sprigg £32 for this land on Cattail Branch which Maj. Sprigg had purchased from James Veatch. The last will and testament of John Cecil was dated 14 Jul 1757 and admitted to Probate in Prince George's County on 28 Jan 1759. He left his plantation (unnamed) to his wife to revert to his son Zephaniah on her death or remarriage. All negroes were bequested to his wife to be equally divided among his children at her death. John Cecil made his mark on the will and the scribe wrote his name as "John Cicle, Sr."
