    • In 1866, taxes were assessed against Leader Dam for “Pianoforce”. Pianoforce is a brand of player piano. Presumably, patrons would put money in the piano to hear it play in the days before jukeboxes. Leader and some of his friends invested in this device, and each made a small annual income from it. In 1866, Leader earned $267, of which he had to pay $2 in taxes.
