      ——
This John Herbert was living in Salem by 1683, when he appeared on the same tax roll as Capt John HERBERT.
This man continued to live in Salem after 1683 and with wife Mary (tentatively identified as Mary Follett) produced a large family. After 1683, the next record for John Herbert is the adult baptism of his wife, Mary, in the Salem Church on 2 Jan. 1686/7.
A few months later, on 14 August 1686, John, Robert, William, Ebenezer, Joseph and Mary Herbert, children of "John and Mary Herbert," were baptized together in Salem.
In 1703, Robert Follett sold land to his grandson, William Herbert, mariner; the only known adult William Herbert in 1703 was William, son of John and Mary. Four more children of John HERBERT (wife not named) were baptized over the next fourteen years: Benjamin, May 1688, Hannah, September 1691, Elizabeth, December 1694, and Susanna, 1 September 1700.
Probate records have not been found for either John or Mary.
