      His father "came from Reading, England and settled first, perhaps, on Cowdrey's Hill, where was a very early seat of the Damons.

      On the way to or from church, he was thrown from his horse and killed. His wife who was riding on the pillion behind him was so injured as to be unable to walk for the remainder of her life.
