2. | Jonas LEONARD was born on 3 Sep 1784 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts (son of Jonas LEONARD and Sarah MASON); died on 1 Dec 1844 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. Other Events:
Notes: Jonas was on the muster roll of Capt. William Burnet in the War of 1812 and his company was detached to the defense of Boston in Sept. 1814, after the British had attacked Castine, Maine. As a young man, he bought from his father an "undivided half of the family farm (he would sell in like manner to his son Jonas years later). When he died, Patty declined to administer the estate, requesting that son Jonas do so. Interesting items in the inventory include - a pew in the Methodist meeting house in Northfield, a sleigh, wagon and buffalo robe, 25 mill logs (at mill) and nine hundred feet of hemlock boards, 100 sap buckets, and in the house -a paring machine, a bible and a lot of books, a tea set, a looking glass, and among personal effects - two pairs of boots, two pairs of pantaloons, three waistcoats, a pair of spectacles, and a pair of mittens. Many other items are listed and it appears to be a moderately prosperous farmer's household. Jonas married Martha “Patty” DAVIS on 10 Dec 1807 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts. Martha was born on 9 Jun 1787 in Gilsum, Cheshire, New Hampshire; died on 3 Aug 1863 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. 3. | Martha “Patty” DAVIS was born on 9 Jun 1787 in Gilsum, Cheshire, New Hampshire; died on 3 Aug 1863 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. Notes: Patty was only eight years old when her father died and the family was forced to seek town assistance. At some point, she went to live in Warwick with her uncle Jonathan Davis and his wife Hannah. They were childless and she was probably a joy to them.

8. | Moses LEONARD was born on 1 Nov 1706 in Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts (son of Lt Moses LEONARD and Mercy NEWTON); died on 24 Oct 1788 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. Other Events:
Notes: Moses was about twelve years old when the family moved to Worcester. He probably followed his father to Brookfield for time, as he was deeded a farm there in 1732, but the births of his two oldest children are recorded in Worcester. In 1738, he sold his Worcester land and bought land in Rutland. He served as selectman and treasurer at various times in Rutland and lived in the "North West Quarter" or "Rutland District" which later became Barre. His home seems to have been in the area of the present Barre common. In 1778, he followed his children to Warwick, where in 1782, he gave the town land that is now the north end of the cemetery for a burying ground with the provision that they erect a fence and allow him to pasture his cattle and sheep there. His epitaph (part of which is below the present turf line) reads - "Reader behold and shed a tear, Think on the dust that slumbers here, And when you read ye fate of me, Think of the glass that runs for ye". Moses married Beulah Harriet RICE about 1734 in prob Worcester, Massachusetts. Beulah was born on 23 Nov 1716 in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts; died on 4 Dec 1780 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. 9. | Beulah Harriet RICE was born on 23 Nov 1716 in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts; died on 4 Dec 1780 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. Notes: Called by Manning Leonard in the Leonard Genealogy "Harriet Beulah _____", she is named as "Beulah" in her childrens' birth records, deeds, and her own death record and gravestone. She is indentified as Beulah Rice by two applications to the Society of Mayflower Descendants. Their sources are currently unknown. This identification does fit perfectly with her age at death, and in the early years of Worcester the families certainly would have known each other, in fact, there is some evidence that they were near neighbors.
