Isaac, s/o David Sutton, sometimes spelled Sotton, was born 1720-30. He married Rachel, daughter of Benjamin Doty. The three sons, mentioned below, released by quitclaim the lands of their grandfather, Benjamin Doty, to Edward White, in 1784. Jacob, Israel and Samuel all went to Fayette Co, Pennsylvania ( see page 514, "Chamber's Early Germans of New Jersey"). There were probably other children. (Upper Monongahela Valley article)

Isaac Sutton was the first person licensed to preach in Fayette, PA, at the Church of Jesus Christ at Great Bethel.
Isaac Sutton has resigned in March, 1790, but was recalled and served one branch and David Loofborrow the other until the two branches united in November of that year. … Isaac Sutton continued to preach part of the time also until 1794, when Rev. Benjamin Stone was called.

Dec. 19 (Trenton L. 276), mentions wife living (without naming her) and names ch.: (i) Isaac, "eldest," prob. m. from Alfred H Tewell's book - a copy of a page from the Compendium of American Geneology - lists Willliam Sutton (1642/43 - 1718) a Quaker; from England, settled at Hingham and Eastham, Mass.; yeoman, town clk, constable; at Pisctaway, NJ 1672; m 1666, Damaris (1646-1682), dau. of Richard Bishop, of Plymouth, m Alice (Martin) Clark.

In a book by Chambers titled Early Germans of New Jersey - has Sutton of Piscataway, NJ (page 513) - "The first of the family to come to this State are found at Piscatway, as early as 1677. The earliest records in which the name occurs are as follows; in the Elisabethtown bill in chancery we find surveyed to William Sutton, in 1677, Jan. 30, 120 acres; in 1677 and 8, Feb. 11, 125 acres; in 1678, Sept. 10 124 2; in 1685, Feb. 11, 125; in 1686, Feb. 20, 125; in 1687, March 25, 125. In 1697, March 10, a large tract was leased by the proprietors of East Jersey for "a half pence per acre" to William Sutton, Thomas Sutton, Judah, John and Charles Sutton, and others."

William Sutton first appears at Barnstable, on Cape Cod, where, on 5 June 1666, he was hauled into court and fined for purloining the Bible from the meeting house, "one pound and for telling a lye about the same, ten shillings." His departure from the town was probably expedited by these occurences, and a few weeks later, at the neighboring settlement of Eastham, he took refuge in matrimony with Damaris Bishop.

". . . he [William Sutton] lived in Eastham from 1666 to Oct 1671. He went west to NJ about 1672 or 1673. The quest of religious freedom was perhaps the reason for his removal, since in the NJ Colony he was an influential Quaker. On or near the Partian River, not far from the present town of New Brunswick, William Sutton settled and prospered. Known for his fair dealing with the Indians, the wolves and forest were his only enemies. In 1682 he was the owner of 249 acres if land. He held the office of freeholder constable and town clerk. Notes:

It is believed that the family came from Alsace (then a French province) to Holland about the date of the massacre of St. Bartholemew, the family name being Koniger, of German origin. From Holland the Konigers went to England and the name was anglicized into CONGER (sometimes spelled Bellconger). It is said the CONGERS are numerous in Lincolnshire and in the neighborhood of Bristol.
John CONGER came to Newburyport, Massachusetts in his own ship the "Elizabeth Ann" around 1666 and lived there about one year.
He was probably one of the soldiers of the Commonwealth Army and in 1667 he moved to Woodbridge, New Jersey with his wife Mary and one son, Enos.
He was not one of the original proprietors who founded Woodbridge, but was one of the first settlers and participated in the first distribution of lands, his patent to 170 acres bearing the date March 18, 1669.
He held various offices of trust in the township, became a member of the first (Presbyterian) church and died about September 1712.
His will was dated January 11, 1711 and probated October 7, 1712.

It is reported that the Conger family came from Normandy to Holland and thence to England. John Conger was apparently one of 56 men who moved to the newly acquired province of New Jersey which King Charles had taken from the Dutch in 1664. There they founded the township of Woodbridge, his patent to 170 acres of land being dated 18 Nov 1669.

He held various town offices and was one of the commissioners appointed to prosecute thieves who were cutting timber from the common land.

One source states that John also married Sarah KELLEY on 12 Jan 1666 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts. (Sarah KELLEY was born on 12 Feb 1640 in Newbury, Massachusetts and died in 1687 in Woodbridge, New Jersey.) Since this is the same birth date as Mary Kelly, it seems he didn’t marry another woman, but the marriage date is under question.
