Notes: Nathaniel Tibbetts was the owner of the first hotel in Aitkin, named “Ojibway House”. Nathaniel was also the 1st Aitkin County Chairman of the county commission. He also was a 1st Lieutenant in the Civil War. Nathaniel owned the first store in Aitkin and was the first Postmaster. Nathaniel married Susan C. DAVIS on 5 Aug 1855 in Spring Rapids, Benton, Minnesota, and was divorced on 16 Jan 1872 in Aitkin, Aitkin, Minnesota. Notes: He was a graduate of the academy at Belfast, Maine. He was a farmer, a school teacher, and a literary man of considerable note. He served as a musician in the War of 1812. In the 1850 census record for Brownville, he was listed as Isaac L. Tibbetts, a farmer with real estate worth $1200. The rest of the family names proved it waas Jessie L. Tibbetts, converted his father Nathaniel, who had been a Baptist. They had a brick making area on the river so it has been told. In October 25, 1835, Jessie was a Justice of the Peace in New Sharon and performed marriages, New Sharon town records. Therefore, the move was between 1835 and 1840. Jesse married Christiana Havilla DUNTON on 9 Apr 1818 in New Sharon, Franklin, Maine. Christiana (daughter of Benjamin DUNTON and Martha ALLEY) was born on 15 Nov 1794 in Edgecomb, Lincoln, Maine; died on 30 Jul 1888 in Brownville, Piscataquis, Maine; was buried in Jul 1888 in Brownville, Piscataquis, Maine.
