6. | Moses LEONARD was born on 1 Nov 1706 in Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts (son of Lt Moses LEONARD and Mercy NEWTON); died on 24 Oct 1788 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. Other Events:
Notes: Moses was about twelve years old when the family moved to Worcester. He probably followed his father to Brookfield for time, as he was deeded a farm there in 1732, but the births of his two oldest children are recorded in Worcester. In 1738, he sold his Worcester land and bought land in Rutland. He served as selectman and treasurer at various times in Rutland and lived in the "North West Quarter" or "Rutland District" which later became Barre. His home seems to have been in the area of the present Barre common. In 1778, he followed his children to Warwick, where in 1782, he gave the town land that is now the north end of the cemetery for a burying ground with the provision that they erect a fence and allow him to pasture his cattle and sheep there. His epitaph (part of which is below the present turf line) reads - "Reader behold and shed a tear, Think on the dust that slumbers here, And when you read ye fate of me, Think of the glass that runs for ye". Moses married Beulah Harriet RICE about 1734 in prob Worcester, Massachusetts. Beulah was born on 23 Nov 1716 in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts; died on 4 Dec 1780 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. 7. | Beulah Harriet RICE was born on 23 Nov 1716 in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts; died on 4 Dec 1780 in Warwick, Franklin, Massachusetts; was buried in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Massachusetts. Notes: Called by Manning Leonard in the Leonard Genealogy "Harriet Beulah _____", she is named as "Beulah" in her childrens' birth records, deeds, and her own death record and gravestone. She is indentified as Beulah Rice by two applications to the Society of Mayflower Descendants. Their sources are currently unknown. This identification does fit perfectly with her age at death, and in the early years of Worcester the families certainly would have known each other, in fact, there is some evidence that they were near neighbors.
